Red Bird Landing In New Jersey

By Siwale Chabala

Terrence Williams is not a household name yet but New Jersey and NBA fans need to pay close attention. The Nets drafted Mr. Williams at 11th, a basic steal according to yours truely. Terrence played all 4 years at Louisville under Rick Pitino who is known to make college players into legitimate NBA stars. God knows what Sebastian Telfair's game would have been like if he made a stop at Louisville. Terrence Williams averaged 12.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists with the cardinals last year and previously led Louisville to a Final Four.

The 6'6, 220 player grew up in the state of Washington with NBA players like Brandon Roy, Nate Robinson and Jamal Crawford to name a few. He lists Roy and Robinson as his mentors. He shares the same versatile game as Brandon Roy with the exception of Roy's jump shot. Williams's jumper needs some work but he's overall game is incredible. He can dribble like a legitimate point guard, pass better than your average guard, can jump out of the gym, rebound and play defense. Just imagine Dr. Frankenstein combining Scootie Pippen and Stacy Augmon in one of his crazy experiments. And for all you kids who don't know Scootie and Stacy, look them up on youtube.

Terrence Williams will play a key role with reshaping the New Jersey Nets this year. He can play 3 positions( Point Guard/ Two Guard/ Small Forward) because of his versatility. Expect big things from the rookie not just because of his skills but his personality and big smile which he credits Magic Johnson, after watching some tape of the Hall of Famer. Williams actually looks like if he's having fun out on the basketball court and not "going to work". I boldly predict that he will be this year's Rookie of the Year. Yeah I said it, besides the Nets General Manager, Rod Thorn drafted him and he has a great track record. In 1984, Thorn drafted a little known player by the name of Michael Jordan and how did that turn out?????
